Good news is finally coming for the Volkswagen Group. Their electric strategy, which was once slow and unconvincing, is now gaining serious momentum. Several brands within the large automotive concern are recording strong growth in sales of electric vehicles.

By the end of June, global shipments of their all-electric models had grown by as much as 47%, reaching 465,500 vehicles. In Europe, the group’s sales recorded a plus of 19%, with an incredible 89% increase in orders for electric vehicles.

The share of EV models in total sales increased from 7% to 11%. When it comes to the PHEV segment of plug-in hybrids, the range is significantly richer, so it is not surprising that sales at the global level jumped by 41%. The new plug-in hybrid models now offer up to 143 km of electric range.

It should also be said that the total sales of the concern amounted to 4.41 million vehicles, which is an increase of 1.3% compared to the same period last year.

Growth by brand

If we look at the growth by brands, we should single out two. On the one hand, it is Škoda with a growth of 147.8%, and in the premium segment, it is Porsche, which, thanks to the sales success of the Macan with 25,900 units sold, nullified the clumsiness of the Taycan and recorded a plus of as much as 279%.

    Volkswagen (core brand): +14.3%, i.e., 192,600 vehicles

Škoda: +147.8%, with 73,000 EVs delivered

SEAT and Cupra: joint growth of 105.3%, i.e., 37,600 vehicles

    Audi: +32.3%, i.e., 101,400 electric cars

Porsche: +279%, with 34,200 deliveries, mostly due to strong demand for the electric Macan

Best-selling models

By the end of June, ID.4 and ID.5 were the best-selling electric models of the group, with 84,900 deliveries. The ID.3 follows with 60,700 units, while the Audi Q4 E-Tron and its Sportback version record 44,600 units sold.
