Volvo XC40 Recharge Versus ICE
Last week, Chinese owned Swedish-automaker, Volvo, unveiled its first fully electric car, the XC40 Recharge SUV. The all-new car, which Volvo described as “a car of firsts and a car of the future”, is a battery-powered version of the XC40 ICE.
Its two year old brother, XC40, won the European Car of the Year Award at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The XC40 ICE is aimed at the Mercedes GLA, Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Range Rover Evoque.
The two Volvo cars share a lot of features, including the new modular architecture and similar interior layout. The main differences comes from the external design and their different powertrains.
Let’s take a look at the two Volvo cars:
Engine
Volvo XC40 Recharge
The all-wheel-drive SUV is equipped with a dual high-performance 408 hp front and rear electric motors that makes 402 hp.
Its 78-kWh battery will go 400 kilometers (248 miles) on a single charge. Fast-charger system will give 80 percent of its capacity in 40 minutes.
Volvo XC40 ICE
It is powered through the front wheels and AWD by a 1.5 litre three cylinder and 2.0 litre four cylinder engines, in both diesel and petrol variants.
Petrol engines makes 154 to 259 horsepower, while diesel models churns out between 148 to 187 horsepower.
Volvo XC40 Recharge
The absence of internal combustion engine (ICE) automatically turns the front space into a luggage space – in addition to the conventional 460 litres space at the rear.
Volvo XC40 ICE
The rear boots on the XC40 offers a luggage space of 460 litres.
Pricing
Volvo XC40 Recharge
Pricing starts at $60,000 or about ₦21.8 million.
Volvo XC40 ICE
It is priced between $33,700 or about ₦12.2 million.
Both prices excludes the cost of destination and clearing in Nigeria.
Availability
Volvo XC40 Recharge
Deliveries of 2021 model starts in 2020.
Volvo XC40 ICE
November 2017 (as 2018 model) –present.
