Would You Buy This Rare 1967 Toyota 2000GT For ₦400m (Photos)
Toyota is not really known for sports cars but way back in the 60s there was the 2000GT which was amazing and now a classic. Now, this super rear model has been dug up and it’s going for a whopping $912,000 (₦ almost 400m before shipping) at an auction. It took the sports car world like a storm and shook rivals with some calling it a mini Ferrari because of its looks. This particular 2000GT came with the added appeal of being originally bought and owned by legendary American racing driver Otto Linton (1917-2018)
The classic 2000GT was truly iconic as only 351 units were built during its 3-year cycle and this particular model was one of the original 62 cars made in left-hand drive for the U.S. market. It has a chassis number of MF10-10100 which means it was the one-hundredth car (out of the 351 units). The coupe has been in a Toyota dealership owned by a guy called Liton for 30 years. He then passed the 2000GT coupe to another dealer Rich Jacobsen who added it to his private collection. It was fully restored by the third owner (Maine Line Exotics) and it was showcased as the Toyota Motorsport’s 50th-anniversary display.
The Toyota 2000GT is powered by a 2.0-litre inline-6 cylinder that outputs 150hp, channelled to the rear-wheel-drive system. A five-speed manual gearbox (a three-speed auto was also available). It was also one of the most expensive cars of its era, as when it launched it had a sticker price $1,000 (₦450,000)higher than a Jaguar E-Type and Porsche 911.
