Lamborghini Unhappy Because A Dealer Is Allegedly Selling Their Cars To Pimps And Drug Dealers

Super sports car manufacturers would like to attract wealthy individuals such as university professors and Nobel laureates. However, many of these potential customers often lack the necessary funds. Recently, Lamborghini sued Gold Coast Exotic Imports, an Illinois dealer, alleging that they breached a contract by selling dozens of vehicles to brokers and resellers instead of to retail customers, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.
The case has been active since 2024 and may be resolved through an out-of-court settlement. Lamborghini states that its contract with Gold Coast allows sales only to individual customers or authorized dealers. A representative revealed that cars were sold to a chiropractic clinic director in Minnesota and a former athlete in Chicago, but these vehicles were allegedly sold to intermediaries with no intention of keeping them.
In another case, a Lamborghini was allegedly sold to someone who had previously pleaded guilty to a fraud case involving the sale of luxury cars to drug dealers and pimps as a means of laundering money. Lamborghini claims that since 2023 alone, it has identified 32 transactions where Gold Coast Exotic Imports sold vehicles to non-retail customers. Since 2019, the automaker claims it has paid the dealer more than $4 million in bonuses. It also alleges that the dealer demanded “off-balance sheet commissions from customers in the amount of hundreds of thousands of dollars … to agree to sell exclusive, limited-edition models of the vehicle to those customers.”
Gold Coast Exotic Imports has denied the allegations but has failed in its attempts to have the case dismissed in court. The dealer claims Lamborghini has withheld hundreds of thousands of dollars in showroom improvements, failed to reimburse it for marketing costs, and is seeking to remove its president.
