The Lamborghini Lanzador Might Debut As A Hybrid

Lanzador appeared as a concept two years ago, and according to earlier plans, it was supposed to be the first mass-produced electric car from Lamborghini.
The Lanzador was supposed to go into production in 2028, but it was recently delayed by a year. Now, however, it appears that Lamborghini may not even launch the Lanzador as an electric car, judging by recent comments from CEO Stefan Winkelmann.
“So far, we have made two decisions based on the fact that the acceptance of electric sports cars around the world is not satisfactory,” Winkelmann said, speaking to Australia’s CarExpert.
“The first decision is that the replacement for the Urus will again be a plug-in hybrid and that we are delaying the launch of the fourth model.” Winckelmann went on to say that Lamborghini needs to decide soon which way to go for the Lanzador, saying it’s “possible” that it could become a PHEV as well.
For a company specializing in low-volume production vehicles, introducing an all-electric vehicle in these market conditions could be a huge waste of time, energy, and money.
Winckelmann reiterated that Lamborghini doesn’t have to be among the first to sell electric vehicles, “but we have to be there when people are ready to buy these things,” he said, adding that “this is of the utmost importance to the success of a company like ours.”
Winckelmann also commented on the topic of sustainable fuels that could keep the internal combustion engine alive for many years, calling this area of innovation “a huge opportunity,” adding that Lamborghini will keep ICE engines in “two supercars”—the “Temerario and the Revuelto—for as long as possible.
