2020 Toyota Highlander Unveiled – Photos, Details and Price

When we talk about the most popular Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) on Nigerian roads, the Toyota Highlander certainly highly ranked on that list. It is widely loved due to its practicality and reliability. The fourth generation Toyota Highlander made its debut at the just concluded New York International Auto Show 18 years after the first generation Highlander was introduced in 2001.
The 2020 Highlander’s new look, covers a new vehicle platform called Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA-K). This robust new foundation, shared with other Toyota models, enables even greater capability, comfort and safety than before. It offers the choice between a powerful V6 or new-generation hybrid powertrain, with the gas version offering a manufacturer-estimated 22 MPG combined fuel economy and the Hybrid offering an manufacturer-estimated 34 MPG combined fuel economy. The Hybrid will get 17 percent improved fuel economy that the current generation Highlander.
Apart from being longer by 2.36 inches (60mm), the new SUV will come in five variants, starting with a new L grade, then LE, XLE, Limited and the top-of line Platinum. (The Hybrid is offered on all but the L grade). The Limited and Platinum features Highlander’s first-ever 20-inch alloy wheels; The Platinum version gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen display entertainment and connectivity system while others will get an 8-inch. The available new JBL Premium Sound System delivers a 1,200 watts of power. The multimedia system also features Apple Car Play, Android Auto, SiriusXM, Wi-Fi connectivity and Alexa Auto.
The L and LE grades come standard with a second-row bench for seating for eight, while the XLE, Limited and Platinum come standard with a Captain’s Chair second row with seating for seven. Furthermore, you can opt for a second-row bench for seating for eight in the XLE and Limited if you prefer more passenger space to a more executive cabin.

Engine

Most Nigerians will post for the 295-horsepower and 263 lb.-ft. of torque 3.5-liter V6 engine merged to an 8-speed automatic transmission. However, only a few will consider the new version of the Toyota Hybrid System.

In the 2020 Toyota Highlander, power is sent to the road by the front-wheel drive or three different available all-wheel drive systems — two for the V6 models and a unique AWD system for the Highlander Hybrid. Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-Wheel Drive is also featured in the Limited and Platinum editions.

Limited Warranty

Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles and against perforation from corrosion for 60 months with no mileage limitation.

Price

The price is yet to be officially announced but it is expected to be about the same price with the 2019 Highlander starting from $31,350 and up to $48,830 for the Hybrid Limited Platinum. These amounts will translate to about N25million and N35million respectively in Nigeria after shipping, clearing and dealers’ commission.
