Gov. Dickson Commissions Bayelsa International Airport
The Bayelsa State International Airport was commissioned yesterday.
The governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson unveiled the new airport situated at Wilberforce Island.
The governor expressed deep gratitude to God to have given him the courage to initiate the project. He also expressed gratitude to his team for their support in the past eight years.
The governor also gave credit to late Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha. According to Dickson, Alamieyeseigha’s government conceptualized what has come to fruition today.
Dickson renamed the Airport Road after the Late Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, first civilian governor of Bayelsa State.
“The landing equipment are of international standard. We spared no effort nor resource in securing the best because our people deserve it.”
The governor also called on the Federal Government to expedite the required approvals for commercial operations to commence.
The Bayelsa State Government spent over N60bn to build the new Bayelsa international airport.
The project was handled by Dantata and Sawoe.
The airport would be able to handle flights by big aircraft such as the Boeing 777.
the airport with 3.7-kilometre runway would create over 2,000 formal and informal jobs for indigenes of the state.
The inaugural flight to the airport was on the 14th of February, 2019. The flight had the Governor, Seriake Dickson. It flew in from Abuja, at a few minutes past 2.00 pm followed by an Air Peace flight from Lagos, at 2:40 pm.
