Astronauts Shows Off New ‘₦8.9b Toilet’ That Just Landed On International Space Station
NASA Astronauts shows off new ₦8.9 billion toilet that just landed on International Space Station (ISS).
The titanium toilet has better ergonomics, odor control, and more adaptability for female astronauts.
Astronauts in the ₦58trillion ISS will give the newly redesigned toilet a test run for the next few months.
On Monday, an 8,000-pound cargo ship from planet Earth, successful docked on the International Space Station (ISS), bringing aboard several new shipments.
These includes new science equipments and the Space Station first ever refrigerator. But the most talked-about item arriving on the ISS is a $23m (₦8.9 billion) titanium Space toilet.
The new toilet, officially called the Universal Waste Management System (UWMS), was designed using male and female astronaut feedback.
The UWMS is NASA’s first major toilet redesign in nearly 30 years. It is about 65% smaller and 40% lighter than the ISS’s existing Russian-made toilets.
The microgravity toilet has better ergonomics, odor control, and more adaptability for female astronauts.
The astronauts aboard the ISS will give the newly redesigned toilet a test run for the next few months.
The International Space Station (ISS), were this ₦8.9b toilet just landed, is a multi-national collaborative project between NASA (United States); Roscosmos (Russia); JAXA (Japan); ESA (Europe); and CSA (Canada).
The ISS is the most expensive single item ever constructed. As of 2010 the total cost was US$150 billion, or about ₦58 Trillion.
