Rail Transportation In Lagos : Then ‘Overloaded Train’ Vs Now ‘Blue Line Electric Train’ (PHOTOS)

Rail transportation in Lagos State : Then ‘overloaded train’ versus now ‘Blue Line self-propelled all-electric train’.
Slow moving trains used in the past are so overcrowded that passengers can be seen hanging dangerously on the outside.
A ride on the new train from Marina to Mile 2 will take less than 15 minutes, a journey that usually takes an hour or more.
Earlier this week, President Muhammadu Buhari took part in the inaugural ride on the electric-powered train from the Marina Station to National Theatre Station after commissioning the first phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit.
The self-propelled carriages for the Lagos Blue Line Rail system, which the State Government acquired to ease transportation problems in the state, will use electricity as the motive power.
Now the State Government has shared a throwback shot of what used to be normal train ride in Lagos State. The slow moving diesel-powered trains used in the past are so overcrowded that hundreds of passengers can be seen hanging dangerously on the outside.
When it is finally opened for commercial use, the train rides from Marina to Mile 2 will take “less than 15 minutes”, a journey that usually takes an hour or more, according to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The first phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit system will transport 250,000 passengers daily. This numbers is expected to rise to 500,000 passengers daily when the entire 27km track from Marina to Okokomaiko is completed.
