LASG Warns Motorists With No Number Plates, Faded Number Plates
LASG warns motorists with no number plates and those with defective and faded number plates.
Perm Sec Min. of Transport said it is against Sections 15 and 16 of the State’s Transport Reform Law 2018.
Says misuse of the number plate violate the laws, especially with the present security challenges facing the nation.

The Lagos State Government has warned motorists against the use of defective vehicle registration number plates on Lagos roads, adding that those without any number fixed on their vehicles should desist from the unlawful act.
Speaking on the wrongful use of the number plate which has become rampant, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola said it is against Sections 15 and 16 of the State’s Transport Reform Law 2018.
Toriola noted that covering number plates without authorisation, use of faded number plates, use of damaged number plates, misuse of the number plate and non-use of the number plate, all violate the law, especially with the present security challenges facing the nation.
Quoting Section 16 of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, (TSRL) 2018, the Permanent Secretary reiterated that : “A person, who drives a vehicle that is not registered, or does not have affixed identification mark in the prescribed manner, commits an offence”.

The Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) says the N25,000 it charges motorists for the replacement of faded number plates is legal.
On which law empowers the service to impose fine on motorists, the spokesman explained that section 299, 301 and 302, of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria empowers DRTS to do so.
