CCECC celebrates a new milestone as 163.31-km Lagos–Ibadan Railway reaches 1000 days of safe operations.

The Chinese-built connects Nigeria’s economic center Lagos and the southwest industrial city Ibadan.

Since the start of operation in June 2021, the Lagos–Ibadan Railway has safely transported over 2 million passengers.





China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) is celebrating a new milestone as the Lagos–Ibadan railway reaches One thousand (1,000) days of safe operations.

Since the start of operation in June 2021, the 163.31-km Lagos–Ibadan Railway, with a monthly peak of over 150,000 riders, has safely transported over 2 million passengers.

The Chinese-built Lagos-Ibadan Railway connects Nigeria’s economic center Lagos and the southwest industrial city Ibadan. It has a designed speed of 150 kilometers per hour.

“The Lagos–Ibadan Railway hit 1000 days of safe operations recently. Standing as the longest standard-gauge railway in Africa, the Lagos–Ibadan Railway spans 163.31 km with a 150 km/h top speed.

In addition, CCECC has provided all-round technical support for local talent for the operation of the Lagos–Ibadan Railway, including skill enhancement trainings.





“CCECC has been nurturing local talent through diverse training, imparting skills, and boosting the overall quality of Nigerian railway staff for sustainable growth.

“Each of the 1,000 days witnessed the blossoming China-Nigeria friendship. We hope that the Lagos-Ibadan railway will continue to carry the Nigerian people towards a bright future.”
