Mercedes Celebrates 25 Years Of Bernd Mayländer As The Official F1 Safety Car Driver

Mercedes-AMG Petronas celebrates 25 years of Bernd Mayländer as the official FIA Safety Car driver.
His F1 Safety Car adventure began on March 12th 2000 at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
In addition to Mercedes Safety Car, Bernard also drive models supplied by Aston Martin, an Vantage F1 Edition.
Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team is celebrating 25 years of Bernd Mayländer as the official FIA Safety Car driver. The former Race Driver for Mercedes and Porsche has been the safety car driver for all Formula One races since the start of 2000 season.
In a post on its Instagram page, Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 shared a photo of Bernd Mayländer with two AMG-powered Mercedes Safety Cars – a Mercedes-Benz CL 55 AMG F1 he drove in 2000 season and a Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series that will lead this season’s F1 race cars.
Mayländer’s F1 Safety Car adventure began on March 12th 2000 at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
The German racing driver and current Formula One safety car driver is required to guide 20 of the world’s fastest drivers in the world’s highest-performing race cars. As of 2018, Mayländer had led over 700 laps in Formula One during his career.
The 52 year old has driven the F1 Safety Car since 2000 except for a handful of missed races such as the 2001 Monaco Grand Prix and 2001 Canadian Grand Prix and the 2002 United States Grand Prix.
In addition to Mercedes Safety Car, Bernard also drive models supplied by Aston Martin, an Vantage F1 Edition. Currently, Aston Martin and Mercedes share supply duties for the current FIA F1 Safety Cars after the British luxury marque joined Mercedes as an official supplier from the 2021 season.
“The Aston Martin is the Vantage F1 Edition. I’m happy about the fact that they joined the FIA [to also supply] the Safety Car and the Medical Car. It’s a nice brand, a fantastic brand. When I jump in the green one, the Aston, I feel a little bit like James Bond!” Maylander said in an interview last year.
