Afzal Kahn, a self-made millionaire and founder of luxury car tuner, Kahn Design and the Chelsea Truck Company, has revealed that a ‘F1’ number plate he purchased 17 years ago for £440,000 is the best investment he ever made.

“The best investment I ever made!,” the Formula One fan said of his F1 plate (which may cost up to £15 million to day) in a post shared on his Instagram page in February 2025.

One of the world’s most desirable and sought-after number plates, the F1 registration number plate currently sits on his red carbon Bugatti Veyron Super Sport – one of only three in the world.

Originally owned by Essex County Council, the 122 year old plate was bought by Kahn for a record-breaking £440,625 in 2008 – setting a UK record for the most expensive plate sold at auction.

In 2013, Kahn turned down a £6 million offer for his favourite plate, saying “i wouldn’t sell it for ten million” and in 2018, a £10 million offer was again declined – which is a profit of nearly 23 times his initial investment.
