“We’re excited to bring autonomous vehicles to riders in Saudi Arabia,” said Sarfraz Maredia, Global Head of Autonomous Mobility & Delivery at Uber.

Each of these Robotaxis include a vehicle operator to ensure a safe and reliable experience for riders and pedestrians, though WeRide said the service will transition in fully driverless operations in the future.

The initiative, in a partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Transport General Authority, aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 ambition to lead innovation in smart, sustainable mobility.

Currently, WeRide is testing or operating its autonomous vehicles in over 30 cities across 11 countries, including Guangzhou, Beijing, Wuxi and other cities in China, as well as Abu Dhabi and Riyadh in the Middle East.
