Speeding S-Class Knocks Down A Worker As FG Threatens Closure Of Coastal Highway Over Traffic Offences

Speeding S-Class knocks down a worker as FG threatens closure of coastal highway over traffic offences.
Section One of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway was opened to ease traffic while construction work continued on the project.
A contractor’s worker working on the shoulder of the road along the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway reportedly lost their life after being knocked down by the reckless driver of a speeding Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Reacting to the incident, the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, warned that Section One of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway may be closed to traffic if indiscipline by motorists continues to endanger lives and disrupt construction work.
Umahi said this in Lagos on Friday during a parade of suspected vandals of cat’s-eye reflective lights on the Third Mainland Bridge.
According to Umahi, the speeding vehicle (which Autojosh understood to be a Mercedes-Benz S-Class) knocked down two concrete solar poles, veered off the road, and killed the worker instantly.
He added that what was intended to reduce congestion has become a nightmare due to traffic indiscipline, especially motorists driving against traffic and excessive speeding.
Umahi also said the Federal Ministry of Works would work with the State-owned Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and security agencies to deploy personnel to control traffic and secure the construction area.
The minister warned that if wrong-way driving and excessive speeding persisted after one week, the Federal Government would have no option but to close Section One of the highway until completion of construction.
It will be recalled that Section One of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway was temporarily opened during the Christmas period to ease traffic while construction work continued on the project.
