Mercedes Declared That Its New Vehicles Will Travel Through German Cities On Their Own

Mercedes continues to invest in autonomous driving, and according to the director of development at that company, Jörg Burzer, new models of Mercedes cars equipped with the Mercedes Drive Pilot system will be able to drive almost autonomously through heavy traffic in German cities from 2027.
“This service is expected to be available throughout Germany from 2027,” Burzer announced on the LinkedIn platform, stating that the company is developing assisted and automated driving in close coordination with the Federal Ministry of Transport, German weekly Spiegel reports.
With so-called point-to-point navigation, the driver remains responsible and therefore must formally put his hands on the wheel at least every few seconds; however, the electronics actually take control of the vehicle, even in complex situations.
Supervised autonomous driving and Level 4 autonomous driving are expected to be allowed in Germany and Europe by early 2027.
Thanks to the new assistance system, in some passenger car models, drivers are now allowed to watch movies while driving on the highway, according to Spiegel.
