Porsche Boss Reaffirms His Stance On No Electrified 911

Porsche purists abhor radical changes, especially for the 911. They were upset about the 996’s headlights and the Cayenne’s debut. The 911 crowd resists all things revolutionary. News of an all-electric 911, even if delayed, likely caused concern among Porsche fans.

Michael Leiters, the CEO of Porsche, has stated that the Taycan was most likely released too soon. He didn’t go into further detail, but it implies that the corporation is going to be a little more lenient with upcoming EV ventures.

But the executive had suggested more than just that. “We will continue to invest in electric mobility, but a 911 will not become electric; its future viability must be maintained by combustion engines and hybrid technologies,” Leiters stated, translating from German. That was stated in a recent panel discussion conducted by the German car magazine Auto Motor und Sport. From here, we can hear everyone breathing a sigh of relief.

The fact that their preferred rear-engined sports vehicle will continue to use pistons for a very long time is something purists can rejoice over. Nevertheless, it remains possible that the 911 will eventually have to adapt to increasingly stringent laws. Whether you like it or not, the 911 will eventually undergo more electrification.

For the time being, Porsche’s T-Hybrid system is only available for the GTS. However, while electrified, the hybrid system doesn’t improve those MPGs much. Rather, it enhances performance more like an electric boost system. It may be a stretch to term it a hybrid, but it does demonstrate the company’s ability to provide the 911 experience with an electric twist.

Porsche has thus far dismissed the notion of a plug-in hybrid 911. Considering how slowly the sports vehicle has evolved, a fully hybrid version may be released before any outlets and cables are used.
