JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) is once again shedding light on what it has in store for the coming years. Behind the scenes, the group is, of course, still busy reforming Jaguar. It has scrapped all the old models along with the old brand values. The new Jaguar will be an EV brand full of ‘bold’ models. The first model of the reborn Jaguar will be the Type 01, which will be unveiled later this year. All other new Jaguars that follow, just like the Type 01, will feature only electric powertrains.

Range Rover

JLR has viewed Range Rover as a standalone car brand for some time now, just like the Discovery and Defender. For the time being, the Range Rover Sport and its big brother, ‘the Range Rover’, will remain on the current MLA platform, which is suitable for mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Later this year, Range Rover will unveil the fully electric Range Rover Electric and Range Rover Sport Electric. These fully electric versions are based on what Range Rover calls the EMA platform. There is something remarkable going on with that Range Rover electric. This electric Range Rover on the EMA platform will, at a later stage, gain a brand-new sibling with a non-plug-in hybrid powertrain. Indeed, the lineup will then consist of the ‘old’ mild- and plug-in hybrid Range Rovers and the electric and hybrid Range Rovers on the EMA platform.

Defender

The Land Rover Defender family currently consists of three models: the short 90, the mid-size 110, and the extra-long 130. The Defender family is being expanded with an entirely new model that will be built on the aforementioned EMA platform. Both electric and non-plug-in hybrid versions will be available. This new member of the Defender range, in particular, is expected to drive growth figures in the United States. The Stellantis group is joining in on this, as was recently announced. JLR designates the United States as its primary growth market.

Discovery

What is going to happen to the Land Rover Discovery? A lot, but exactly what is not yet known. JLR says that the Discovery sub-brand ‘has a clear place’ within JLR. According to Land Rover, Discovery is being ‘brought into the future’ with a wide range of powertrains. So count on various forms of electrification.

Freelander

How does the new sub-brand Freelander fit into the story? JLR is saying nothing about that for the time being. We already know that the Freelander 8 is being developed in collaboration with the Chinese company Chery.

Hard cash

JLR aims to make significant savings in various areas. Operational costs must be reduced, including through savings on ‘material costs, warranty, and fixed costs’. JLR hopes to save around 2 billion euros through this, with the goal of reaching the break-even point at 300,000 cars per year within two years.
