Renault Says It’s Tired Of “Same Cars With Different Emblem”
In the French car company that is in partnership with the companies Nissan and Mitsubishi, they are no longer sympathetic to the idea that certain models of Japanese companies are, in fact, Renault models with different emblems.
If they agreed to the idea of rebranding, with which several of the same models can be sold under different brands, Renault is giving up on the mentioned idea, because they no longer want their individual models to be sold in certain markets as models “signed” by Nissan and Mitsubishi.
The first man of Renault, François Provost, revealed to the media that the French company, in the continuation of its partnership with the mentioned Japanese companies, which together with Dacia are members of the Renault group, will insist that in the future there will be no more models that will be distinguished only by emblems, as was the case in the previous period in which Renault’s perennial bestsellers Clio and Captur were offered in many markets as Mitsubishi’s Colt and ASX models, and the electric Renault 5 as the Nissan Micra.
The Provost says that the partnership with Japanese companies is not in question, but it will be slightly reduced, because Renault is not interested in losing the recognizable visual identity of its models, so both Nissan and Mitsubishi will have to have their own designed models in due time, which, in the spirit of cost reduction, will continue to be based on the platforms and mechanics of the Renault group.
“My predecessor Luca de Meo had nothing against the rebranding of Renault models, but I will never agree to a partnership in which the visual identity of the company is lost,” says Provost, who added that he was very satisfied with the way Renault and Dacia prepared the differently designed Twingo and Spring electric models on the same platform.
