A Function In Cars That Shouldn’t Be Used For Longer Than 20 Minutes

A study published in the journal Environmental Science and Pollution Research shows that recirculation should not be active for more than 20 minutes. There are many warnings about the use of air conditioners, and this is certainly one of the most serious, and it is supported by scientific research.

“There is a button in your car; it activates a function that can be dangerous if it is active for a long time,” warns Dr. Christabel Akinola on Instagram.

The button you don’t think about is the air recirculation button. So it uses the same air inside the car instead of bringing in fresh air from outside. It helps the air conditioner cool the car faster and can also prevent exhaust fumes from entering.

But if this feature is left on for too long, it can be dangerous.

In one post, the doctor tells the story of a family of five who almost lost their lives. They were packing the car for the road trip, but they didn’t realize that one of the children had been playing with the air conditioning functions and accidentally pressed the button before they left.

“On the way, the father noticed that everyone else was falling asleep, and soon after, he too lost consciousness and fell off the road into a ditch. It all happened because the child pressed that button,” Akinola writes.

When the recirculation is active for a long time, the carbon dioxide we exhale accumulates in the vehicle. Oxygen levels decrease, fatigue increases, and reaction time decreases. The more people in the car, the greater the risk.

Symptoms can appear without warning. A study published in the journal Environmental Science and Pollution Research shows that recirculation should not be active for more than 20 minutes, especially if you are driving with more people in the car. Carbon dioxide levels are rising rapidly.

Many modern cars today have automated systems that detect air quality and regulate recirculation, but care should be taken. If the windows start fogging up or if you feel tired for no reason, then it’s high time to check which button is on.
