A Loose Panel Has Caused Tesla To Recall 46,000 Cybertrucks In The US

Tesla recalled the Cybertruck at least six times last year. In October, more than 27,000 Cybertrucks were taken off the road for a software update to the backup camera. The image was lagging, making it harder for drivers to see where they were driving and increasing the risk of a collision. In June, Tesla recalled about 11,000 Cybertrucks due to issues with windshield wipers and cargo box components that may not have been adequately secured.

The futuristic-looking stainless steel Cybertruck has a turbulent history. The first Cybertrucks were not delivered until the end of 2023. The truck was initially supposed to be available at the end of 2021, but the coronavirus pandemic, shortages in the supply chain, inflation, and technical problems caused significant delays. The Cybertruck is not officially available in Europe.

Bloomberg reports that the more than 46,000 vehicles are all Cybertrucks sold in the US. According to a report that Tesla filed with the regulator, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the automaker estimates that the defect affects one percent of Cybertrucks. Tesla said that if the panel comes loose while driving, it could pose a hazard to drivers behind the Cybertruck, increasing the risk of injuries and collisions.
