There are so many airlines in Nigeria that are now defunct, and this includes the nation’s national carrier – Nigeria Airways.
Over the years, there are challenges which made these airlines close down operations in Nigeria. The challenges, which include internal and external environmental factors, made it difficult for these airlines to continue operations, hence, their close down.
In the last 50 years of commercial air travel in Nigeria , over four dozens of airlines have come and gone as a result of politics, mismanagement of funds, corruption,high cost of aviation fuel or financial loss.
Aviation experts over the years have expressed worry over the development in the aviation industry; which they said portended bleak future for the industry in Nigeria.

The ADC Airline was founded in 1984 and ceased operations in 2006. It operated domestic scheduled services and regional charter flights. Aviation Development Company plc were the owner of this airline.

The airline commenced operations in 1971 and ceased operations in 1972.
3. African Trans Air
It commenced operations in 1992 and ceased operations in 1995.
4. Afrijet Airlines
It commenced operations in 1998 and ceased operations in 2009.
5. Afrimex
It commenced operations in 1994 and ceased operations in 2003.
6. Air Atlantic Cargo
It commenced operations in 1994 and ceased operations in 1999.
7. Air Nigeria
It commenced operations in 2010 and ceased operations in 2012.
8. Albarka Air
It commenced operations in 1999 and ceased operations in 2005.
9. Al-Dawood Air
