The New Benz GLC – Make The Best Of Every Ground

Stuttgart – The GLC is an even more refined version of the GLK, which is its predecessor. It is typically a C-class on stilts as this luxury competent crossover features the interior of its sedan sibling. The GLC is a great choice for singles and families as it is as sporty as a coupe. This SUV version of the C-class epitomizes core properties of distinctive versatility, tailored solutions and superior handling characteristics. Under the hood is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo 9GTRONIC engine that boosts 241hp with 273 net torque. The GLC is 12-19% more fuel-efficient as it is also equipped with the auto stop, start eco function thus yielding 28mpg.
Exterior
The exterior styling is dynamic and muscular, conveying both a sense of all weather and any road purpose as well as the latest sporty, refined and contemporary design from Mercedes-Benz. The GLC has a strong presence with its twin louvre grills and striking headlamp designs. Full LED headlamps are also available with intelligent light system to provide maximum illumination on the highway or around the city.
The GLC comes with 18-inch wheels with optional 19 and 20-inch AMG light alloy wheels. Its broad rear body design displays full LED tail lamps and chrome exhaust tips. Also standard is the power rear lift tail gate and reverse camera while a trailer hitch and brushed aluminium running boards are available options as well.
Driving Modes
Dynamic Select is standard in the GLC and comes with five driving modes, which are comfort, sport, sport plus, eco and individual. These modes vary the engine, transmission and steering characteristics according to each driving mode. Dynamic select can also be complimented with optional air body control, which provides more athletic handling capabilities in sports and sports plus modes. Air body control uses multi chamber air springs combined with continuously adjustable shock absorbers to enhance both ride and handling. The GLC can also be raised or lowered by 4cm to overcome tough terrains or to ease cargo loading
Interior
The spacious and comfortable interior depicts luxury with its synthetic MB-tex leather upholstery and the new saddle brown leather with black headliner. Other options include designo leather with choices such as platinum white pearl quilted nappa leather combined with black seat bolsters. Black ash wood trim is standard in the GLC and comes with no cost.
Other standard options include dual-zone automatic climate control, adjustable drive settings, synthetic leather upholstery (MB-Tex), a 14-way power driver seat with memory functions, 40/20/40-split power-folding rear seats, a universal garage door opener, a rearview camera, a 7-inch infotainment display, Bluetooth phone and streaming audio, Mbrace Connect (includes smartphone app integration) and an eight-speaker sound system with a CD player, HD radio and two USB ports.
An available 8.4-inch high-resolution command screen located in the center of the dashboard provides navigation, mobile phone operation that can be controlled via the touchpad or the center console. The touchpad’s innovative handwriting recognition lets the user input letters using fingers. The GLC is 100litres larger than its predecessor with 550 litres trunk space, 7.4 litres stowage space and 7.1 litres in the glove compartment.
Packages Available
The optional Premium 1 package adds blind spot monitoring, advanced keyless entry, a household-style 115-volt power outlet and satellite radio. The Premium 2 package includes all of the Premium 1 features, plus a navigation system with voice control, an 8.4-inch display and real-time traffic and weather information. It also adds a touchpad controller, cargo net and a collapsible crate in the cargo area. The Premium 3 package adds adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, active lane keeping assist, forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, active blind-spot assistance, and an air freshener and purification system.
The Sport package includes sporty body styling, 19-inch wheels, upgraded brakes and stitched MB-Tex dash trim. The Night package offers a stealthy effect with high gloss black side mirrors, chrome grill louvres and 19” black wheels (with front and rear under guards). The Active Parking Assist package adds front and rear parking sensors, an automated parking system, hands-free liftgate activation and a surround-view camera.
Available Options
Other available options include 20-inch wheels, an adaptive air suspension, panoramic sunroof, a roof spoiler, an illuminated Mercedes grille star, a head-up display, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, rear side-window sunshades, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a 14-speaker premium Burmester surround sound system and internet streaming radio. Several Mercedes Mbrace options are also available, including emergency telematics and concierge services.
The GLC Coupe will come standard with 4Matic all-wheel drive, the LED headlights and the sunroof. Otherwise, it will be equipped similar to the standard GLC300. The GLC 43 AMG model will include 4Matic, the LED headlights and the sunroof, along with a powerful V6 engine, unique exterior and interior design flourishes, and a sport-tuned air suspension.
Safety Features
Standard safety features for the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 include antilock brakes, traction and stability control, front-seat side airbags, a driver knee airbag, full-length side curtain airbags, trailer sway control, crosswind assistance, a forward collision warning system, a forward collision intervention system with automatic braking, Pre-Safe (takes measures to secure the cabin and occupants when a crash is imminent) and a drowsy driver warning system. The Mbrace Secure telematics system includes automatic collision notification, emergency assistance, agent-assisted remote unlock and stolen vehicle location assistance.
Features such as blind-spot warning (and automatic intervention), lane departure warning, lane departure intervention, enhanced forward collision intervention with pedestrian detection, and forward cross-traffic collision detection and intervention are available with the Premium packages.
