BMW To Stop M Models In The Competition Version By Next Year

The BMW M division has so far offered its valued models in standard and even more powerful Competition versions, but next year will be different. Since so far more than 80 percent of buyers of the M3, M4, M5, M8, and also M SUVs… have chosen the Competition version, an announcement came from Munich that starting next year, the standard versions of all M models should be at the level of the current more powerful versions, which means that the addition of the Competition could fall out of the game.

The intentions from Munich were confirmed by the first man of the M department, Frank van Meel, who emphasized in a new statement to the media that it is unnecessary to produce standard M models if a huge number of customers opt for the more expensive and more powerful version, which will apparently soon become the basic version.

According to the plans of the M department, future buyers of the M model will be offered standard versions with the potential of previous Competition versions, but also more “belligerent” versions of CS and CSL, which will be optimized for use on closed tracks with less weight and even more power.

As a reminder, the three-liter inline 6-cylinder biturbo engine in the standard versions of the current BMW M3 and M4 develops 480 HP, and in the Competition version, customers can count on an additional 50 “horses.” With the optional M Driver package, the duo reaches 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and reaches 290 km/h.
