BMW XM Is The Worst Selling SUV In The American Market
In 2023, BMW sold just 2,315 units of the XM in the US, with even lower numbers in 2024. That year, only 1,974 of these vehicles were sold, marking a 14.7 percent decline from 2023 and making it the company’s worst-selling model.
In contrast, the Z4 roadster performed better, increasing 13.1 percent to 2,129 units, aided by the introduction of the Z4 M40i featuring a six-speed manual transmission. Other models also had notable sales: the X5 had 72,348 buyers, the smaller X3 recorded 68,798 units sold, and the 4 Series reached 42,608 units.
2024 was otherwise a great year for BMW in the US. With 371,346 vehicles delivered, demand rose 2.5 percent to a new record high. BMW finished well ahead of its main rival Mercedes-Benz, which, despite a 9 percent year-on-year increase, sold 324,528 units. Another German competitor, Audi, was far behind, with 196,576 cars, a 14 percent drop compared to 2023. Japan’s Lexus had its best year ever in the US, finishing 2024 with 345,669 vehicles, ahead of Mercedes but still behind BMW.
