BMW XM Label Red Becomes The Fastest Hybrid Electric SUV At The Pikes Peak - autojosh

BMW XM Label Red becomes the fastest Hybrid Electric SUV at Pikes Peak after driving to the top of the course in 10:48.60 min.

It outpaces the previous 10:49.902 set by the Bentley Bentayga SUV in 2018 by nearly a second and a half.

Record-setting XM Label Red is fitted with a six-point roll cage, a racing seat, and a harness as well as in-car and exterior cameras.

Record run comes few months after the first attempt ended with BMW driver Matt Mullins crashing the car into a tree.

BMW XM Label Red’s 10 minutes and 48.6 seconds makes it the fastest plug-in hybrid SUV at Pikes Peak.

But the fastest SUV overall at Pikes Peak remains the 666-hp Lamborghini Urus Performante with a time of 10:32.064.

The 748-horsepower BMW XM Label Red has set a new record for an hybrid electric SUV at the Pikes Peak after driving to the top of famous course in 10:48.60 min, outpacing the previous 10:49.902 set by the Bentley Bentayga in 2018 by nearly a second and a half.

After the first attempt ended dramatically back in June, with driver Matt Mullins crashing the car into a tree, BMW and Mullins returned to the 12.42 miles (19.99 kilometres) highway with more than 150 turns on September 21 to set a new record.

BMW had earlier this week shared the first of two-part documentary, showing the behind-the-scenes as the team embark on a 9-month journey to break the record for the fastest hybrid SUV at Pikes Peak with the BMW XM Label Red.

Unlike the base car, the record-setting BMW XM Label Red is fitted with a six-point roll cage, a racing seat, and a harness as well as in-car and exterior cameras fitted to capture the record run.

The BMW XM Label Red is the most powerful BMW M model ever made. It distinguishes from the base XM variant with an accent band in Toronto Red metallic, although a black accent band also can be specified.

It is powered by a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid powertrain, which churns out 738-hp and 738 pound-feet of torque, and allows a 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds and an electronically limited speed of 155 mph or 175 mph if owners opt for the optional M Driver’s Package.

BMW XM Label Red’s 10 minutes and 48.6 seconds makes it the fastest plug-in hybrid SUV at Pikes Peak. But the fastest SUV overall at Pikes Peak remains the 666-horsepower Lamborghini Urus Performante with a time of 10 minutes and 32 seconds.
