The BMW 5 Series outperformed its competitors from Mercedes and Audi in sales during the first four months of the year, with over 60 per cent of new buyers choosing the Touring version.

The current generation of the BMW 5 Series debuted two years ago, so, in keeping with the German brand’s tradition, a redesign is already in the works. It doesn’t even need a refresh, given the latest sales figures.

In the first four months of 2025, the 5 Series surpassed its direct rivals, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Audi A6. Specifically, between January and April, 20,402 buyers in Europe opted for the Bavarian model, which is 56 percent more than in the same period in 2024. Interestingly, more than 60 percent of the buyers opted for the station wagon Touring version.

Despite a growth of 19 percent to 15,811 units, Mercedes-Benz took second place. The Audi A6/S6 climbed to the last step of the podium with 13,774 units sold, an increase of 10 percent compared to the first four months of 2024. The electric version of the i5 is also popular, with 8,843 units sold (+55%) in the first four months of the year. In this ranking, the Audi A6 e-tron is in second place with 7,460 units, and the Mercedes-Benz EQE has fallen to third place with 3,740 units.

In terms of the structure of the engines selected on the Bavarian cruiser, diesels and plug-in hybrids are tied, both with a share of 30 percent. Pure electric powertrains are also close behind, with a 27 percent market share. Gasoline engines recorded a share of 11 percent.
