Bugatti has announced that its open-top W16 Mistral roadster has entered final testing phase.

Follows the completion of aerodynamic evaluation and testing of the W16 and its transmission on the dynamometer.

Bugatti has announced that its open-top W16 Mistral roadster has entered its final testing phase, following the completion of aerodynamic evaluation and testing of the W16 and its transmission on the dynamometer.

The final stage of testing will see Mistral prototypes subjected to a succession of tests to analyse its performance under various driving conditions. According to Bugatti, these tests will look at safety, emissions, endurance, and drivability of the W16 MISTRAL.

“We are in the last part of the testing program – we are getting close to the finish. From the initial validation stages to the intensive endurance tests, every aspect of the Mistral’s development is precisely planned and executed.

“The Mistral is the ultimate example of our dedication to setting new standards in roadster design,” said Emilio Scervo, CTO Of Bugatti Rimac.

The thorough road tests for the Bugatti Mistral has seen Prototype 2 covered an impressive distance of 32,000 km on various terrains, including high altitudes in the mountains, at sea level, and even through heavy traffic conditions.

Bugatti aims to push the limits even further by adding another 5,000 kilometres on the track, which will see Prototype 2 accumulate a total of 40,000km – a figure it claimed most modern-day Bugatti customer cars has not yet reached.

Bugatti notes that the verification of the Mistral’s top speed is expected to be one of the most challenging aspects of the latter testing process due the challenge of finding suitable track that allows the Mistral to reach over 420km/h safely.

“We are planning to run the final high-speed test in one of the very few tracks around the world that allow us to run the test in safe conditions. The moment that we have access to that track, however, achieving the top speed will no longer be a problem.” added Emilio Scervo.

First unveiled in August 2022 at The Quail, a Motorsports gathering during Monterey Car Week in California, the open-top Mistral is the first open-top model since 2015 and the last to use the brand’s incomparable 8.0-liter W16 engine, first seen in 2005 in the Veyron.

Despite the jaw-dropping price of around $5 million, all 99 examples of the Bugatti Mistral was sold out even before the roofless roadster was revealed to the public during Monterey Car Week about two years ago.
