Buy Nigeria To Grow Naira : Nord CEO Unhappy With The Purchase Of 360 Foreign-made SUVs For Rep Members
Buy Nigeria To Grow Naira : Nord CEO unhappy with the purchase of 360 foreign-made luxury SUVs for Rep Members.
In addition to being cheaper, he said vehicles made by Nigerian brands can offer the same quality as foreign-made vehicles.
The founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nord Automobile, Ajayi Oluwatobi, has reacted to the news on the planned purchase and distribution of over 350 utility vehicles to members of the House of Representatives.
Recall that the House of Representatives’ spokesperson, Akin Rotimi, in a statement said that the utility vehicles to be distributed to its members are official vehicles and not for personal use.
Though, Akin Rotimi failed to confirm the car brand and price of each vehicle to be distributed, several news media alleged that the official vehicles are brand new 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series SUVs with each worth N160 million.
Reacting to the move, Nord CEO, in a lengthy post on Twitter, wondered why the Federal Government will opt for foreign-made vehicles when cars made by Nigerian brands can offer the same quality at a better price.
“The National Assembly buying foreign built vehicles at this time is dispiriting, especially when you consider that we are all trying to promote buy Nigeria to grow the Naira.”
“A sad part of this is that we (assemblers and manufacturers of vehicles in Nigeria) actually proposed our vehicles and explained how it would make a lot of financial, technical and political sense to buy from us but they didn’t even entertain the idea for long.”
“How can you represent Nigeria but refuse Nigeria especially when some of us have shown you that we would offer similar top quality at a better price?”
“Why do you want be seen driving a foreign brand when a Nigerian brand can offer you the same quality at a better price? Shocking and makes little sense, let’s not even talk about patriotism.”
