The chairman of China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), Chen Fenjian, has died suddenly, aged 58. Fenjian, who took the helm two years ago, died on Sunday,
China Railway confirmed the news on Tuesday without giving more details. It added that the company is running as normal and will soon appoint a replacement.

While there was no official explanation for Chen’s sudden death, several media outlet, including Caixin magazine, reported that he took his own by jumping from a building. Caixin cited industry insiders and banking executives who do business with China Railway.
China Railway Construction is the main builder of the world’s longest high-speed railway network. Shares of China Railway fell in both Shanghai and Hong Kong exchanges, with declines of up to 4.2 per cent.
CRCC is one of the world’s largest and most powerful integrated construction groups, ranking 54th in this year’s Fortune Global 500.
Last year, the Nigerian Federal Government awarded a $3.9bn public-private partnership contract for the new Abuja-Itakpe-Lokoja rail line to China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC).
