Dubai Police Impound Nissan Patrol After Driver Removed Licence Plate To Drive Over 230 km/h - autojosh

Dubai Police have summoned a driver who deliberately removed the vehicle number plate of his Nissan Patrol SUV in an attempt to evade smart traffic enforcement systems before driving at speeds exceeding 230 km/h (140 mph).

According the police department, its advanced traffic monitoring systems detected a grey Nissan Patrol committing a series of serious traffic offences at multiple locations across Dubai, including exceeding the speed limits.

Speaking about the reckless behavior, Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, explained that the driver wrongly believed removing the vehicle’s number plates would prevent the authorities from identifying him.

“However, Dubai Police’s advanced security system, supported by artificial intelligence technologies and highly skilled field teams, successfully tracked the vehicle, identified the driver and summoned him,” the police department said in a statement.

Following the driver’s summons, Dubai Police impounded the vehicle for the traffic offences, including deliberate removal of vehicle number plate to evade smart enforcement systems. According to Dubai Police, the offending driver will have to pay up to AED 50,000 to secure the release his impounded Nissan Patrol SUV.

Speaking further, Brigadier bin Suwaidan stressed that excessive speeding remains one of the leading causes of serious road traffic collisions, as it significantly reduces reaction time and makes it more difficult for drivers to maintain control of their vehicles during emergencies.

While stressing that speeding does not shorten the journey but increases the risk of never reaching the destination, he added that driving at such extreme speeds endangers not only the driver but every road user.
