German Citizens In Favor Of A Speed Limit On The Autobahn
What left-wing parties and environmental organizations have long sought is now being brought to the forefront by an increasing number of experts, including the famous German economist Veronika Grimm (54).
– A speed limit would not be harmful, but maybe even a smart signal for people to take the situation seriously, Grim told the Rheinische Post.
Of course, Mrs Grimm talks about the grim reality, high fuel prices and the speed limit on the Autobahn.
In a new, representative Forsa survey commissioned by Stern magazine and the RTL TV channel, 51 percent of German citizens surveyed supported the introduction of a temporary speed limit: 120 km/h on autobahns and 80 km/h on main roads. The proposal received particularly strong support among women (63 percent), people over 60 (62 percent), and supporters of the Green Party and the Left Party (82 percent each).
Support for temporary speed limits is lowest among men (37 percent), 30-44 year olds (38 percent) and supporters of the far-right AfD party (19 percent). Within the ruling CDU party, opinions are divided: 50 percent are in favor, 49 percent are against the introduction of speed limits.
