Lamborghini celebrates the Countach LP 400 S from the 1981 comedy movie, ‘The Cannonball Run’, which turns 45 this year.

Actresses Adrienne Barbeau and Tara Buckman brought together for the first time since the movie’s release on 19 June 1981.

In 2021, the Countach LP 400 S from the 1981 movie officially became one of just 30 cars considered national importance to the US.

Italian sports car manufacturer, Automobili Lamborghini, is celebrating the iconic 1979 Lamborghini Countach LP 400 S from the 1981 comedy movie, ‘The Cannonball Run’, which turned 45 this year.

Right from the three-plus minutes of the opening scene of the 1981 comedy movie was dedicated entirely to the Lamborghini Countach, using the sound of the V12 and its six carburetors as the soundtrack.

To celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Countach LP 400 S, Lamborghini brought together actresses Adrienne Barbeau and Tara Buckman for the first time since the movie’s release on 19 June 1981.

In an interview, the actresses admitted that neither one had seen or driven a Lamborghini sports car before the movie. “I immediately thought it was beautiful, simply beautiful, and it still is,” began Adrienne Barbeau.

“We had the best car and it was definitely the most beautiful of all,” added Tara Buckman, who was Jill Rivers in the movie.

On why it was precisely the Countach chosen to win the race, Barbeau said : “I think that the Countach has the look of a winner, none of the others could have won.

She adds that :

“They were not in its league. And then the opening scene, with that soundtrack and the sight of the Countach racing along and playing hide-and-seek with the police car. Only the Countach could achieve an effect like that.”

It will be recalled that in 2021, the Lamborghini Countach LP 400 S from the 1981 ‘The Cannonball Run’ officially became one of just 30 cars considered national importance to the United States.

The iconic 1979 Lamborghini Countach LP 400 S, chassis number #1121112, was recognized by the Hagerty Drivers Foundation on the 40th anniversary of the movie for its relevant role in pop culture.

The foundation, who has overseen the National Historic Vehicle Register since 2009, decided to add the Countach to the list of only 29 other vehicles considered important for American history.
