LASTMA says it impounded 3,850 vehicles between May and July, 2021, for various traffic offences in Lagos State.

It said the figure does not represent the total figure of traffic law violators cos it is was impossible to apprehend all offenders.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) says no fewer than 3,850 vehicles were impounded between May and July 2021 for violating traffic offences in the state.

This was announced by the new General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Bolaji Oreagba, during a media parley at the agency’s headquarters in Oshodi on Monday.

Oreagba, who said the impounded vehicles belonged to private and commercial operators, however, urge the motoring public to obey traffic laws and regulations to avoid being arrested by its officers.

The LASTMA boss, a Deputy Controller (Traffic), added that obeying traffic guidelines would reduce traffic offences and the constant gridlock affecting vehicular movements in the state.

Oreagba, who noted that moving Lagos traffic situation forward was a collective responsibility of all Lagosians, also urged the media to help in propagating traffic laws to the motoring public in order to get them familiar with these laws.

Oreagba said :

“Traffic offences will be reduced to the minimum if not totally eradicated if all road users adhere strictly to all rules and regulations on traffic guidelines. We urge the media to assist in propagating our traffic laws to the motoring public in order to get them familiar with these laws”

“Compliance to the traffic law by road users is abysmally low which culminated in the impounding of 3,850 vehicles, private and commercial within the months of May to July 2021”

“This figure does not represent the total figure of traffic law violators because it is absolutely impossible to apprehend all offenders”

“All road users, private and public vehicle owners in particular, are encouraged to always report cases of excesses of LASTMA officials as LASTMA officers are expected to be civil in their mode of operation when they apprehend traffic violators.”
