Man Hit And Killed By Landing Plane At Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Texas, USA
A man, who managed to get onto a runway at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, was struck and killed by a landing Southwest Airline plane on Thursday.
A man was struck and killed by a Southwest Airlines plane as it was landing on the runway of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport late on Thursday.
Medical teams said the unnamed person died at the scene. No one on the flight was hurt, but the plane’s left engine was damaged.
The pilot of the Southwest Airlines flight reported seeing someone on the runway to air traffic control after it was cleared to land at 8 p.m
The controller asked the pilot :
“Where exactly do you see the man?”
“They are behind us now,” the pilot said.

Southwest said in a statement that the pilot “maneuvered to avoid an individual who became visible” shortly after the plane touched down.
The airline said none of the 59 people on board the flight were injured in the incident. It added that it is fully cooperating with local law enforcement and the Federal Aviation Administration.
The runway was reopened early on Friday morning after the scene was cleared overnight by the police.
The Transportation Security Administration said it “is conducting a check of the perimeter of the airport property with the airport’s security team.”
FAA has not confirmed whether or not the aircraft struck the victim.
