New 2022 Ford Mondeo Leaked, For China Only (PHOTOS)
New 2022 Ford Mondeo leaked ahead of reveal, it is destined for Chinese market only.
The leak also reveals there will be several different customization options depending on the trim level.
The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has published photos of the new 2022 Ford Mondeo for the local market. It takes the shape of a sedan with a design inspired by the Mustang Mach-E and, to a larger extent, by the Evos. The latter will be sold as a hatchback/crossover, while the new Mondeo will be marketed as a more traditional three-box vehicle.

The leak from China also reveals there will be several different customization options depending on the trim level. A Mondeo lettering on the trunk lid confirms the sedan will retain its name for the Chinese market.

Meanwhile, Ford hasn’t disclosed its plans, though, judging by spy photos from last month, there could be a successor to today’s Mondeo, probably with a different name. It’s basically the same situation with America’s retired Fusion, but we expect Ford to prioritize the more crossover-like shape of the Evos rather than the traditional sedan seen here.
The leak also confirms the new Mondeo will be sold with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine in China, delivering 235 horsepower (175 kilowatts). The car from the photos rides on 19-inch wheels with 235/45 tires and has a wheelbase of 2,945 millimeters (115.9 inches). The new Mondeo is 4,935 mm (194.2 inches) long, which makes it 66 mm (2.6 inches) longer than the model that’s still on sale in Europe.
