NRC Grants CCECC A 3-year License To Operate Freight Services On The Lagos-Ibadan Railway - autojosh

NRC officially authorized CCECC to operate freight services on the Chinese-built Lagos-Ibadan Railway.

CCECC granted a 3-year license, following its partnership with NRC in 2023 to introduce cement/container freight services.

As of October 2024, the Lagos-Ibadan Railway has safely operated for over 1,400 days since its launch in June 2021.

Chinese-built Lagos-Ibadan railway connects Nigeria’s economic center, Lagos, and the southwest industrial city, Ibadan.





It was officially launch by ex-President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration on June 10, 2021.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has officially granted China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC) a license to operate freight services on the Chinese-built Lagos-Ibadan Railway.

Per a copy of the official license certificate shared, CCECC was granted a three-year operational license to operate freight services from October 14, 2024 to October 13, 2027, following its partnership with NRC in 2023 to introduce cement and container freight services.

“New milestone for the Lagos-Ibadan Railway! CCECC has been officially authorized by the Nigerian Railway Corporation to operate railway services for the public carriage of goods, becoming the first company licensed to operate standard-gauge rail freight in Nigeria.”

First container freight train of the Lagos-Ibadan railway arrived at the Ibadan station on Friday November 3rd 2023, nearly two and a half hours after departing from Apapa Port with a total of thirty (30) 40-foot containers.

“Since its launch on June 10, 2021, the Lagos-Ibadan Railway has made remarkable progress. As of October 2024, the railway has safely operated for over 1,400 days. ”

“In 2023, CCECC partnered with the Nigerian Railway Corporation to introduce cement and container freight services. The freight service marks a new chapter in Nigeria’s rail transport and promises to significantly boost the economy of Nigeria and the wider West African region!”





It will be recalled that the first container freight train of the Lagos-Ibadan railway arrived at the Ibadan station on Friday November 3rd 2023, nearly two and a half hours after departing from Apapa Port with a total of thirty (30) 40-foot containers.
