Plan Your Trips, Check Markings Before You Park : LASPA Charges Lagos Motorists On Responsible Parking

The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has urged motorists to make parking plans an essential part of their daily journeys, as it prepares for the commencement of a structured on-street parking programme aimed at creating a safer, more organised, and efficient parking system across the state.
The State’s Parking Authority stressed the need for responsible parking across Lagos, reaffirming its commitment to creating a safer, more orderly, and efficient parking system.
The General Manager of LASPA, Mrs Adebisi Adelabu, made this appeal while discussing the Authority’s activities. She also reiterated the State Government’s commitment to establishing an effective parking system.
Emphasising the need for Lagosians to adopt a new parking culture of planning their trips in advance, she said :
“Before leaving home, motorists should think about where they are going, the most suitable mode of transportation and the availability (nearest) approved parking slots to their destination. Parking should become a pre-thought, not an afterthought.”
Mrs. Adelabu further announced the readiness of LASPA for the implementation of the much-talked-about enhanced On-Street Parking initiative following the success of several planning, testing and system improvements.
According to her, designated streets across Lagos for the On-Street Parking programme will be clearly marked to indicate where parking is permitted, where paid parking applies and where parking is prohibited.
She therefore urged Lagos motorists to pay close attention to road signs and pavement markings, including red lines, single yellow lines and double yellow lines, which are designed to improve traffic management and ensure public safety.
Continuing, she stressed that paid parking is not new to motorists in Lagos, adding that the On-Street Parking reform is aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in parking management.
“Lagosians are already paying for parking in many parts of the city. Our goal is to ensure that these payments are made through a structured, accountable system that benefits the public rather than unregulated individuals.”
To ensure the success of the On-Street Parking initiative, the LASPA boss has urged motorists to support ongoing reforms by complying with parking regulations, observing traffic signs, and adopting responsible parking practices across Lagos State.
