Porsche Says It Will Stick To Combustion Engines For A Lot Longer Than Expected
Porsche has changed its plans and now claims it will develop new combustion engine derivatives for its models to meet customer demand as sales of all-electric cars are currently falling.
Even though Porsche made a strong commitment to electrification and set ambitious goals to have 80% of its new deliveries be battery electric vehicles by 2030, the German company is in danger of breaking those pledges as sales decline.
Figures released for the third quarter of this year revealed that the all-electric Taycan (both sedan and wagon) saw sales fall by 50% compared to the previous quarter, prompting Porsche’s chief financial officer, Lutz Meschke, to reveal that the company is reviewing the planned gradual abolition of the internal combustion engine.
Meschke told Automotive News Europe that the company is considering the possibility of its all-electric cars getting hybrid powertrains or internal combustion engines. He added, “What is clear is that we will be sticking with the internal combustion engine for a lot longer than we planned.”
