Reps Urge Works Ministry To Dualize Ore-Ondo Road
Given that the Ore-Ondo road has been designated for dualization, the House of Representatives has urged the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to begin work on it.
The House made the decision in plenary on Tuesday based on a motion moved by a member, Abiola Makinde, which was unanimously adopted.
‘Urgent Need to Dualize Ore–Ondo Federal Road, Ondo State,’ the motion stated.
Makinde stated that the Ore-Ondo City federal road connects to five federal constituencies and numerous towns in Ondo, Edo, and Osun states.
He also mentioned that the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing had designated the road for dualization several years ago.
The lawmaker went on to say that the road was a major route for transporting agricultural produce to Ondo from neighboring states, as well as a strategic route for motorists and cargoes traveling from the north to the south-west.
According to him, despite being long designated by the Ministry of Works and Housing, a contract for road dualization has yet to be awarded.
“The House is concerned that the deplorable state of the busy road, which has been neglected for years, has been exacerbated by the influx of heavy-duty trucks conveying goods from the northern to the south-western parts of the country,” Makinde said.
“The House is also concerned that the road’s deplorable condition has harmed the livelihoods of people living in the six surrounding Local Government Areas.”
“The House is concerned that, as a result of the road’s deplorable condition, it has become a haven for kidnappers and armed robbers, who continue to use it to attack commuters and terrorize unsuspecting citizens because security agents are unable to respond quickly and come to their rescue.”
