FG To Execute 43 Road Projects In Tertiary Institutions

Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Raji Fashola has said that 43 road projects are ongoing across various tertiary institutions in the country.
Fashola stated this during the handing over of a 2km internal road project at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State. He said the provision of quality roads infrastructure in tertiary institutions would enhance academic activities.
“It is undebatable that quality of education will be impacted by the quality of infrastructure and learning environment. Those who doubt it should simply listen to some of the feedback from students in the schools. ” This was contained in a press statement by the Director (Press) of the ministry, Boade Akinola.
Represented by the Federal Controller of Works in Benue State, Engr. Charles Oke, the minister explained that the infrastructure gap in the country is steadily being bridged by a gradual process of repairs, renewal and construction on major highways and it has now reached the schools.
He stated that there are currently 43 road intervention projects within tertiary Institutions across Nigeria. These are being executed by the ministry, Fashola pointed out. He said that students were expressing renewed enthusiasm with regards to attending classes. This is because some defective roads had been restored to good condition.
He added that the road intervention project had impacted on the condition of learning in the schools. However, he also said it had also created jobs and generated employment for Nigerians.

On his part, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Professor Anande Richard Kimbir, expressed gratitude to the federal government for the road intervention project.
He said the commissioning of the road project came in less than two months. This was after an 8.25MW Solar Hybrid Power Plant was commissioned in the school.
In attendance at the brief handover ceremony were traditional rulers and some members of the University Governing Council.
