Sanwo-Olu: Days Of Rickety Vehicles In Lagos Are Numbered
Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, said yesterday that the period of rickety vehicles and the ubiquitous commercial buses known as ‘danfo’ in the state would soon be over.
This was declared by the governor at the official launch of 1,000 brand new vehicles for the ‘Lagride’ taxi scheme in Ikeja.
He stated that the state was progressively transitioning from the era of shaky commercial cars to safe modern automobiles.
He said that the new taxi program will create jobs, accelerate socioeconomic progress, and further establish the state as a global ‘Centre of Excellence’ and modern megacity committed to long-term development.
The Lagos governor stated that the taxi scheme will ensure a smooth transit system for the city’s teeming commuters.
“The scheme is in fulfilment of our desire to give residents better transportation choices in line with multimodal transport systems which key to our THEMES Agenda. The modern ride service is one of the state government’s socio-economic intervention programmes, which will be professionally managed in line with global best practices,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The governor urged private businesses and people to join forces with his government in order to boost the number of automobiles available for the program.
He stated that all drivers who are hired for the plan will be given Android phones loaded with various apps to help them operate more efficiently.
He claimed that the cars were built with features that ensured the riders’ safety, comfort, and enjoyment.
