A Toyota-badged Tesla Cybertruck was recently spotted on the highway in the United States, amid backlash on Elon Musk, whose recent controversial political moves has made sales of Tesla vehicles to plummet in the first two months of 2025 in the European Union (EU).
Musk’s increased political activity in recent months, both as a close political ally and funder of President Donald Trump, has also made Tesla become the target of a violent backlash, with arson and other attacks reported at dealerships, storage lots and charging stations.

Following the nationwide incidents, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Monday launched a task force to nail the criminals setting fire to Tesla vehicles and charging stations, calling the acts “domestic terrorism”.
Since January 2025, Tesla electric vehicles have been targeted in at least nine states in the US, according to the FBI. The bureau also revealed it has received reports of 48 instances so far this month.

These attacks, which FBI are calling “domestic terrorism”, come after Elon Musk was appointed by US President Donald Trump to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Local news reports that Tesla CEO Elon Musk-led DOGE, tasked with slashing wasteful federal spending, has laid off tens of thousands of federal employees as part of its cuts.
