Across the world, authorities can seize assets like cars and money if they believe they are connected to criminal activities.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office in Florida has shown off the latest addition to its police car fleet, a 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 sports car seized from a felony suspect.

In a Facebook post from the Florida-based Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Chip Simmons, said:

“No taxpayer dollars were used to fund this vehicle. It was seized from a felony suspect. The new wrap and upgrades were funded by the Escambia County Sheriff Foundation.”

The ECSO Facebook added that the new police supercar would be used for “community engagement like we’ve never seen before.”

This 650-horsepower supercar, which cost $81,995 at its peak, is now equipped with strobes lights and a siren, but lacks the traditional roof-mounted light bar.

But the new police cars have created mixed reactions among the citizens. While some have voiced support for the move, others thinks it is a bad idea.

One commenter from nearby Panama City Beach, FL said that “the money (for the upgrade) would have been in the budget instead it’s some flashy unnecessary parade car,”.

Across the world, including Nigeria, authorities can seize assets like houses, cars and money if they believe they are connected to criminal activities.
