Volvo May Reintroduce Sedans And Wagons After All: Report

Published

on

Volvo may soon bring back sedans and wagons to its lineup, despite currently focusing on crossovers and SUVs and discontinuing its final wagon, the V60 Cross Country, after 2026.

Volvo is reportedly developing new electric sedans and wagons built on its SPA3 architecture. Featuring 800-volt systems and fast-charging capabilities, these models, potentially named ES60 and EV60, may arrive by 2028 as alternatives to the brand’s current SUV-focused lineup.

If these models use the EX60’s powertrain, expect 369–612 hp, though a shorter wheelbase may limit battery size and range. Reports suggest -60 or -70 branding, with the ES60 sedan and EV60 wagon potentially joining the lineup, including a possible lifted Cross Country variant.

Priced from the low $50,000s, these 2028 models will cost more than the Tesla Model 3 and Lexus ES 350e. It is unclear if they will offer rear-wheel drive or stick to dual-motor AWD. With sedan and wagon demand low in the U.S., annual sales are projected at 10,000 units. This news follows Volvo’s recent discontinuation of its sedan and wagon lineup, though executives hinted at a potential return, noting that other luxury brands like BMW still find success with non-SUV body styles.

Although Volvo hasn’t officially confirmed new SPA3-based models, CEO Håkan Samuelsson recently hinted at a future beyond SUVs, telling Motor1: “I don’t think 10 years from now, we will only have SUVs from Volvo.”
