Volvo’s New EM90 Electric Minivan Turns Into A Theater, Meeting Room With The Flick Of A Switch
Volvo EM90 has arrived, a luxurious electric Minivan that turns into a theater or meeting room with the flick of a switch.
Volvo describes new EM90 as an electric premium Minivan “designed to be a comfortable living room on the move”.
6-seater Minivan now available for pre-orders for customers in China, where it will rival Lexus LM and Denza D9.
Swedish brand Volvo has finally unveiled its EM90, a fully electric premium MPV “designed to be a comfortable living room on the move”, and tipped to go more than 450 miles (738 kilometers) of electric range.
Based on sibling brand Zeekr’s 009 MPV, the Volvo EM90 is now available for pre-orders for customers in China, a lucrative Minivan market where the 818,000 yuan ($112,000) “comfortable living room on the move” will rival the likes of Lexus LM and Denza D9.
“With the EM90, we’re taking Volvo Cars’ heritage and leadership in safety into the exciting new electric MPV segment,” said Jim Rowan, chief executive at Volvo Cars. “It allows us to tap new market demand we’ve not explored before and broadens the appeal of the Volvo brand to more people.”
The six-seater Minivan, with a pair of armchair-style lounge seats in the middle row, comes with a smart cabin that can easily be turned into a theatre, a meeting room, or a bedroom for the rear seats with the flick of a switch or a command to the voice assistant.
“The Volvo EM90 is a supremely comfortable electric car with a smart cabin, fast charging, a competitive driving range, Volvo’s unique design language and a high level of premium in every detail,” said Jim Rowan.
“But far more important is what it does for you. It gives you room to connect. Room to create. Room to relax. Room for you and for those around you.”
In addition to a 15.4-inch infotainment screen for the driver, the Minivan has a roof-mounted high-definition 15.6-inch screen that folds down when rear seat passengers wants some entertainment or a business video meeting.
With its 116kWh battery, the EM90 will go 458 miles on China’s CLTC testing cycle, while a fast charger gives a 10-80% capacity in less than 30 minutes. It is powered by an e-motor with 200kW power output, which allows the EM90 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0-60 mph) in 8.3 seconds.
