Xpeng Aeroht showcases its “Land Aircraft Carrier”, which consists of a 6-wheel van and a detachable flying car.
Following its first global manned flight at the 15th China Airshow, Xpeng Aeroht said it has received over 2,000 orders.
Priced at 2 million yuan ($280,000), the Xpeng Aeroht “Land Aircraft Carrier” is slated for delivery in 2026.
Xpeng Aeroht, a subsidiary of XPeng Motors, recently conducted the first global manned flight its modular flying car dubbed the “Land Aircraft Carrier” at the 15th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition (China Airshow) in Zhuhai.
The China-based company says that its “Land Aircraft Carrier” is the world’s only car capable of storing an “aircraft” in its trunk. The modular flying car consists of a ground-based six-wheel vehicle called the “Mothership” and a detachable aircraft for flight.
At the Air Show and ahead of its first global flight, Xpeng Aeroht’s founder, Zhao Deli, showcased the fully automated separation and reconnection between the “Mothership” and the detachable drone-like aircraft.
“With just one touch on my smartphone, this ‘transformer’ releases the air module from the ground module”, said XPENG Aeroht’s founder Zhao Deli at the airshow.
The Mothership’s industry-first Onboard Automatic Separation and Reconnection System allows the flying car to be loaded or deployed from the trunk of ground module within five minutes without any human intervention.
In addition to serving as both storage and transport vehicle for the air module, the ground “mothership” also functions as a mobile “home”, autonomously powering and deploying the air module.
The air module on the other hand has a cabin for two occupants, features a 270° panoramic cockpit for an expansive flight view and supports 5-6 flights on a full charge.
In addition, it offers both manual and autonomous flight modes, including auto-route planning, autonomous cruising, 360-degree obstacle detection and descent vision assistance.
At the Zhuhai Air Show, Xpen AeroHT announced it has gotten 2,000 pre-orders from 12 enterprises following the first public flight of its Land Aircraft Carrier, adding that it will begin pre-orders for individual users this December.
Priced at 2 million yuan ($280,000), the “Land Aircraft Carrier” is slated for delivery in 2026. Currently, Xpeng Aeroht ’s flying car manufacturing base, with a planned annual capacity of 10,000 units, is scheduled for completion in Q3 of 2025.
