10 things about the Rolls-Royce Cullinan ultra-luxury SUV, from how it got its name to how much it cost to own one.

Back in May 2024, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars revealed the Cullinan Series II, the latest expression of its flagship Super-luxury SUV, which first arrived in its current form in 2018 as a 2019 model.

Since its arrival in the market, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan has not only helped the British luxury marque to record sales but has also become the best-selling model in the brand’s history.

Below are 10 things to know about the Rolls-Royce Cullinan….

1. Launch

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan was unveiled in May 2018 at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy, and launched globally at an Autumn press event later that year in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, US.

2. It was tested all over the planet

Yes… the most luxurious SUV was tested in the deserts of Africa and the Middle East, the freezing snows of the Arctic Circle, the grassy glens of the Scottish Highlands and also in the towering canyons of North America.

3. Named after the world’s largest diamond ever discovered

Rolls-Royce’s first-ever SUV shares its name with the world’s largest diamond ever discovered. The 3106 carat (621.35 g) rough diamond worth an estimated $2 billion) was found in the Cullinan region of South Africa in 1905.

4. Position In The Rolls-Royce’s line-up

Dubbed the Rolls-Royce of SUVs, the high-riding Cullinan 5-door SUV sits above the Ghost sedan and below the Phantom III sedan in Rolls-Royce’s line-up.

6. Almost every Cullinan is now driven by its owner

According to Rolls-Royce, less than 70% of the Cullinan were self-driven when it was first launched, unlike today where almost every Cullinan is driven by its owner.

6. Rivals

Cullinan doesn’t really compete with any SUV in the segment, but premium hand-built models like the Bentley Bentayga EWB and the Range Rover Autobiography also offers the ‘magic carpet’ ride quality.

7. The only Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) With Suicide Doors

Cullinan is the only production SUV that is equipped with rear suicide rear doors. This feature is also found on the Purosangue, but Ferrari prefers to call its first-ever four-door car a FUV (Ferrari Utility Vehicle) instead of SUV.

8. Executive rear-seat package

This feature found in the more luxurious version includes a whisky decanter, glasses and a champagne chiller with flutes. It comes with screens just in case you want to watch your favourite sport show.

9. Engine

The new 2025 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II and the Black Badge Cullinan Series II uses a twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre V12 engine – which allows it to surge from 0 to 62 mph in a mere 5.2 seconds.

10. It is expensive

The price of the 2025 Rolls-Royce Cullinan starts at around $392,000 and goes up to $454,000 depending on the trim and options – though you will need over N1.7 billion to own the latest-generation Cullinan II model in Nigeria.
