Honda Releases A Sneak Peak Of Its Second Electric Vehicle, The E Supermini

Honda has released the first official image of the follow up to its first electric vehicle, the E supermini. It was released ahead of it official unveiling at the Beijing Motor Show.

It will be the first fully electric model from the brand to go on sale in China.

Honda’s teaser image is a preview of a concept car that will be fully revealed at the Beijing Motor Show. Honda says it indicates “the direction of the future mass-production model of the Honda brand’s first EV to be introduced in China.”  The teaser is posted to Honda’s global news site.

Details of the new concept car, E Supermini, which has been teased with a CGI rendering of its front-end design, remain thin on the ground.

The teaser itself is relatively plain and devoid of styling details. From just the few lines and creases that we can see, it already looks completely different than the cute Honda E.

We can see, however, that it is larger than the recently launched Honda E. It appears to be either a saloon or low-height crossover.  Both bodystyles are popular in Asian markets.

The car’s design also appears to move to a less retro-themed approach than its supermini stablemate. Instead it takes a more futuristic look.

A blanked-off grille is also visible, as is becoming common. This is because battery-electric models do not require as much front-end air cooling as their combustion-engine equivalents.

The as-yet-unnamed model is not yet confirmed for production. But it is likely, given that Honda does not have a full EV offering of any sort in China. However, it is understood that a European or United Kingdom debut is not likely for the model, with the focus instead on gaining a foothold in Asian markets.

Given the car’s increased size and the hugely competitve EV market in China, expect it to offer significantly greater range than the quoted maximum of 136 miles of the E. Official details will be announced when the Beijing motor show begins on 26 September.
