Restoration of traffic sanity continues as Lagos State Environmental And Special Offences Unit impounds 100 commercial motorcycles.

Operatives of Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit over the weekend impounded 100 commercial motorcycles. The seizures is part of the Lagos State Government efforts in restoring traffic sanity back to the state.

According to the Chairman of the Agency, CSP Shola Jejeloye, the 100 motorcycles were impounded around Navy Town at Alakija, 2nd Rainbow and Festac. Jejeloye revealed in a statement that the operation was carried out to halt the abuse of traffic laws by commercial motorcycle operators.

“The discouraging high statistics of motorcycle accidents and the compelling need to enhance safety on Lagos roads led to the promulgation of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reformed Law 2018”, Jejeloye stated.

He stressed that the infiltration of uncertified and illegal motorists without any definite address still remains a security and safety threat to residents.

“In accordance with the Law, every motorcycle operator must wear crash helmets; be above 18 years; not ride on kerb/median/road-setbacks; avoid restricted routes and must not carry more than one passenger/pregnant woman/adult with baby/child below 12 years.

The Chairman charged members of the public to provide useful security information to securities agencies. The Lagos State free Emergency Toll Lines are 112 or 767.
